Adult/Masters Skating Working Groups

Dear Friends,

The ISU Council has acknowledged the development in Adult Figure Skating and in Masters Speed Skating at an international level.

In order to follow this effort and maintain contact with Member Federations that are interested in these initiatives, the Council was informed that working groups for Adult Figure Skating and Masters Speed Skating activities respectively were formed.

On the following pages please find the updated list with the respective contact details for these working groups.

The groups will continue to act as a liaison for the Adult/Masters Skating activity for the further development in this area. One of the purposes of these groups is to give this movement some direction and eventually common rules which cross international boundaries.

There has been remarkable growth in Adult/Masters Skating. The original goal of encouraging skater participation in these competitions continues to be realized as shown by steadily increasing numbers of competitors in these events. A further goal of encouraging Members to support events in their own countries is being met as demonstrated by the increasing number of such competitions each year.

Generally for these events, while conducted according to common rules, the particular technical requirements and general format may differ from other international events. The dates and location, qualifying/entry criteria, technical format and other organizational details are as indicated in the respective Announcement. In the case of ISU supported Adult/Masters competitions, the announcements could also be posted on the ISU website.

Please be informed that ISU Council Members, Ms. Phyllis Howard for Figure Skating and Mr. Gerhard Zimmermann for Speed Skating, have been asked to act as contact persons for each of these working groups. We look forward to the continued participation of the Adult Figure Skating and Masters Speed Skating communities, thus permitting to explore additional opportunities for future growth without excluding, also for the ISU, contacts with the International Masters Games Association (IMGA).

Kind regards,

Fredi Schmid
Director General
